Recognizing and upholding children's rights is essential to ensuring their well-being, dignity, and opportunities for growth. Every child has the inherent right to (United Nations, 1989):
- life,
- education,
- play,
- health,
- protection,
- identity, and
- expression.
These rights provide the foundation for a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters children's physical, cognitive, creative, emotional, and social development. By respecting children's rights, society acknowledges their unique needs, perspectives, and potential, promoting a culture of inclusivity, equity, and justice.
Moreover, along with rights, children also have responsibilities that contribute to their personal development and social integration. Teaching children about respect for others, self-care, adherence to rules, active learning, community participation, and effective communication instills important values and skills. These responsibilities empower children to become responsible, empathetic, and proactive individuals who can contribute positively to their families, communities, and the world at large. By balancing rights with responsibilities, children learn the importance of mutual respect, cooperation, and accountability, laying a strong foundation for their future as engaged and compassionate citizens.
