    The start of this chapter is going to follow a different course by beginning with a story. Rick (name is changed) was a student of mine when I was a high school art teacher in Florida. At this point in time, I had already been a teacher of students with emotional disturbance (ED) in a self-contained setting and had moved on to teaching art. Because as we all know, artists are emotionally disturbed, so I figured I’d be able to hit a wider selection of the ED community.

    I had a reasonable understanding of special education practices, but clearly not enough.
