Assignment: Presentation (with PowerPoint), Food Fair, journal entry, reflection paper
Reflect on what foods are eaten in your culture or by an ethnic group living in your home country. What are the staple foods? What food could be viewed as strange or interesting? What do poor people eat compared to what rich people eat? Conduct some research on the food (its history, ingredients, nutritional value, cultural significance, etc.), and present this information to your class.
If you are able to obtain some samples of food, check with your instructor to see if it’s ok to bring some to class for people to try. If enough people bring different foods from their culture, you can have a Food Festival!
After the presentations (or Food Festival) are complete, write a quick journal entry (300-500 words) on how everything tasted (or looked, if you didn’t eat anything), and what you learned from the different presentations. How did the food compare to what you’re used to in your home country?
