This project is a result of interest in providing low-cost educational materials to the academic realm as much as possible. Embarking on change can be both exciting and terrifying. The spring and summer spent reading, researching, remixing and collaborating has been quite the adventure. The intent of this resource is to combine college success resources and present the topics for the interested general studies major while integrating resources for a student focused on a career in healthcare with a Nursing focus.

Several OER publications were used as a template for this project.

A special thank you to Joselle "Joey" Merritt MLIS, M.Ed. Instructional Design and OER/ZTC (Zero Textbook Cost) Librarian. In addition to her expertise in producing the library resource chapter, without whom this project would never have taken off and become what it is. She earned her MLIS from San Jose State University and her M.Ed. in Instructional Design from the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Ms. Merritt has spent her most of her career as a faculty librarian at community colleges in both Oregon and California. She served as the OER/ZTC lead for Merced College before joining Bakersfield College as the OER/ZTC librarian.

When Ms. Merritt isn't actively advocating for OER/ZTC to faculty and students, she spends her time traveling, reading, and being outdoors in the Pacific Northwest.

Dr. Lisa Harding has worked as a full time tenured professor at Bakersfield College since Fall of 2008. She earned her BSN at Walla Walla University (formerly Walla Walla College) she obtained her Masters Degree in Nursing Education from Holy Names University and is a proud graduate of Grand Canyon University where she earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Prior to teaching in academia, Dr. Harding served her community as an Emergency Department Nurse where she holds and maintains her certification as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN). Throughout her nursing career, she has fulfilled the roles of: Charge Nurse, House Supervisor, Intensive Care Nurse, Hospice Nurse and Emergency Department Nurse Educator. She is currently working in Interventional Radiology and enjoying learning this new specialty.

When not doing "nurse things", Dr. Harding can be found spending time with her best friend and husband David. They enjoy spending as much time together as possible whether it be serving together at their church, visiting their daughter, going on fabulous "Brading" adventures, or just binge watching random TV series, they enjoy "doing life" together.

This resource is a remix from three key OER resources. The primary resource is the College Success from OpenStax(opens in new window). The second resource also titled "College Success" from LibreText. The final resource is specific to Strategies for Success in Nursing School: From Start to Finish(opens in new window) related to the University of Texas Arlington published by uta pressbooks

Leslie Jennings is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing and has been a member of the UTA faculty since 2010. She is the Freshman Nurse Scholar Coordinator for CONHI and serves as lead faculty for two courses. She is passionate about helping pre-nursing students begin the process of professional socialization to the field of nursing as well as helping them learn the tools they need to be successful. Leslie is currently pursuing her PhD in Nursing, with a research focus on retention in nursing education.

Laura Haygood is a Research and Education Librarian at Lewis Library, on the University of North Texas Health Science Center campus. She supports students, faculty, and residents in UNTHSC’s DO and pharmacy colleges. Laura loves teaching evidence-based medicine and connecting users to the resources they need. Furthermore, she advocates for accessibility across campus and in her professional organizations.

RaeAnna Jeffers is a Health Sciences Librarian at the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries and a Registered Nurse trained in Health Informatics. Her passion is to facilitate access to quality information for health professionals to improve evidence-based practice and outcomes for all. RaeAnna begins pursuit of her PhD in Health Informatics in the Spring of 2022.

Craig Keaton is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas Arlington School of Social Work. He received his Bachelor of Science in University Studies with an interdisciplinary emphasis in the biological sciences and his Master of Social Work with a health concentration. Craig’s passion is helping people lead a more natural and nature-based lifestyle for individual and community health. Currently, Craig’s doctoral research includes Self-Care for Helping Professionals and Students; College Student Health/Mental Health Support; Nature and Healing; Arts-Based Education; and Interdisciplinary Health Practice.
