    This is a fun, info-packed course that explores searching techniques, research tools, and hones information evaluation skills. You should expect to spend between 3-4 hours a week doing the readings and the assignments. It is recommended that you work early in the week for an hour, then come back later in the week to finish the assignments. This is especially true of weeks with discussions that require responding to another student's work. All the weeks' content and assignments are available and you may work ahead.

    The learning outcomes for this class

    • Analyze and select appropriate resources from a variety of information systems, including the library catalog, library databases, and internet sources.
    • Identify and create search strategies using keywords, truncation, Boolean Logic on various information platforms.
    • Recognize relationships with library professionals as guidance, assistance, and support for ongoing academic success.
    • Critically evaluate information for currency, relevancy, accuracy, authority, and purpose in context of research inquiry.
    • Demonstrate the ability to understand and formally respond to research writing with critical analysis and understanding.
    • Synthesize research results from a variety of sources, formats, and viewpoints into an annotated research evaluation

    The title of this course is Academic Research Skills, but I hope that what you'll gain is Information Literacy. Later in this chapter we'll learn more about what information literacy means.
