You have a few options when it comes to saving and sharing a library resource:
Get the permalink
Permalinks are permanent, unbreakable links to library resources. Permalinks are also called persistent links, stable links, or permanent links. You must manually generate a permalink - they are not the URL in your internet browser address bar.
As you know, the link at the top of a browser window is called a URL, and is the web address for the page you are looking at. Bookmarking a URL is a common way of getting back to that same page in the future. However, the internet changes all the time - things are taken down, replaced, or altered. Because of these changes, URLs are not considered permanent.
The URL in the address bar of your library catalog search is even less permanent. Remember how the library pays for you to access information that can't be found on the internet? You have to log in to Bonaudi library to access that information, and the URL in your browser's address bar includes information about your specific logged-in session. When you close the browser and end that session, the URL from the address bar breaks and disappears forever.
This means that you can't rely on the URL in your address bar to get you back to a library resource. Instead, you need to find the unbreakable permalink so that you can find your way back to the same resource, share that resource with your classmates/instructor, and cite the resource properly.
Getting permalinks
To find a Bonaudi Library catalog permalink:
- Click on the title of the resource on your search results page.
- Click the Permalink button
(located in the middle of the item's record under the heading Send to). - A box containing the permalink will appear.
- Click
, and then immediately paste the URL into your assignment.
Pin the resource
Logging into the library website allows you to pin (save) resources to your favorites folder. Follow these steps to pin a resource:
- Perform an awesome search.
- Click Sign in and log in using your Big Bend username and password.
- Find a resource you love; click on its title.
- Click on the gray pin icon
(upper right) to add this item to your collection.
- Access the resource easily, forever, by clicking on the pin icon (upper right) that appears next to your name whenever you are signed into the Bonaudi Library website.
Email the resource
You can also email yourself (or someone else!) the resource's record. Note: this option emails a link to the resource, not a PDF of the full text.
- Perform an awesome search.
- Click Sign in and log in using your myClackamas email and password.
- Find a resource you love; click on its title.
- Click on "Email" from the menu of options under the heading Send to and put in the email address you'd like to email the resource to.
