1. National Archives

For this module, you do not have to read the entire Constitution, although reading it from start to finish is highly recommended. Article II of the Constitution establishes the presidency as an independent powerful branch of government which maintains equilibrium between Congress and the Judiciary. The president receives broad powers through Article II which includes military command authority and treaty negotiation capabilities and law enforcement responsibilities but also includes Senate approval and impeachment as checks on power. The analysis of presidential domestic and foreign policy actions, crisis management and more depends on a thorough comprehension of Article II.
Take note of the following sections: Section 1 outlines the qualifications needed to become President, Section 3 describes presidential responsibilities, Section 4 explains impeachment procedures. Section 3 will be front and center in the next module.
