First, engage presidential power via its primary source, the Constitution, then delve deeper into the mechanisms of checks and balances before you learn about how these checks and balances got activated during the first Trump administration. What are the legal and political limits of tools Congress holds over the president? How effective were the Congress's oversight attempts at curbing the Trump presidency's powers? What role do public opinion and media play in shaping congressional oversight? What lessons can be drawn for future administrations and Congresses?

In the last module, we focused on presidential institutions, now we learn about the sections in the Constitution that define and limit presidential power. Pay specific attention to Article II, Section 2 (outlining the president's powers, including Commander-in-Chief of the military, pardon, treaty, and appointment powers, etc.). Also refer to Article I, Section 7 (veto power), and Section 8 (war powers). The Amendments relevant to presidential powers are the 12th, 20th, 22nd, and 25th. Take notes on all of them, and think about the executive's formal power, checks and balances, ambiguities (which parts are vague and open to interpretation?), and evolution (how have these powers developed and changed over time?)

This video further explains the checks and balances inherent in our constitutional system of government, ensuring that power is evenly distributed among its three branches -legislative, executive, and judicial- to prevent any one branch from becoming too powerful. Particularly take notes on each branches' powers and how the judiciary, legislature, and executive branch can limit each others powers.
