The landscape of public health is constantly shifting, shaped by emerging data and the evolving needs of our communities. Because public health is tightly woven into policy, the political environment plays a pivotal role in its direction. This textbook is intended to provide students entering the field or those with a budding interest in the discipline with a foundational understanding of public health principles applicable to the policies and challenges of 2026.
I encourage all who use this resource to view it as a "living document." It is designed to be accessible to all, yet it will require ongoing revision as community needs evolve. To that end, I invite fellow professors and practitioners to provide their insights for future editions. If you have feedback or suggestions for revision, please contact me via the LibreTexts platform; I am happy to consider your expertise to ensure this resource remains current and impactful.
I began writing this Open Educational Resource (OER) with the intent of making contemporary public health information both succinct and applicable. To this end, you will find these pages to be concise and consistently focused on a public health perspective, with references readily available at the end of each section. My goal was to create a guide useful to everyone, from dedicated students to engaged community members. To ensure equitable access, I have diligently worked to meet the most recent Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards, ensuring that neither financial nor physical barriers stand in the way of knowledge.
