    Whats Next?

As we turn our attention to the future, the focus shifts from analysis to imagination. Futures thinking encourages us to consider multiple possible trajectories and to reflect on the values that shape them. In a spaceship world, the future is not a distant abstraction; it is the direction in which we are collectively traveling. The concept of human flourishing provides a valuable framework for evaluating potential futures. Rather than prioritizing economic growth or technological advancement alone, human flourishing emphasizes well-being, dignity, and the capacity to lead meaningful lives (Sen, 1999; Nussbaum, 2011). This perspective challenges dominant narratives of progress and invites us to reconsider what we value as a global society. Futures thinking also highlights the importance of agency. While the constraints of the spaceship are real, the path it takes is not predetermined. Decisions made today, whether in policy, technology, or everyday behavior, shape the possibilities of tomorrow. This realization underscores the importance of intentionality in shaping the future. At the same time, futures thinking requires humility. The complexity of global systems means that outcomes are often uncertain and unintended consequences are inevitable. Navigating the future therefore involves balancing vision with adaptability, and ambition with caution.
