    Activities from HACC COMM 101 Courses

    1.  Why is Taking This Course Important? An introductory activity designed to have students recognize the importance of taking a public speaking course. Note--this also includes reference to the communication model covered in Chapter 2. 
    2. My Identity is a SuperPower (DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION): A look at America Ferrara's TED Talk for students to react to her message and analyze the presentation.

    1. 3.10: SPEECH DRAFT: Icebreaker Writing Students are asked to create a short presentation about someone they consider to be a good speaker.
    2. 4.13: DISCUSS: Brainstorming a Focus Area to Anchor Organization Students are asked to brainstorm a focus area for an introductory speech rather than just present a list of "fun facts". They are given the example of a speaker comparing himself to a pair of shoes.
