    Case Study: The Test

Sonya is taking her first history class at HACC. She has not taken a history course in years and has a lot of anxiety about the course. Sonya always hs struggled in history classes. and she fears this time will be no different. She vows to attend every class and complete every homework assignment.

Sonya's history instructor, Professor Johnson, seems helpful and always reminds students to attend her office hours or free tutoring if they start to struggle. She has reminded the class of her office hours numerous times and reminded them to check their syllabus for these times if they forget. She even has shown the students where to locate the schedule for free tutoring at HACC.

During the third week of class, Sonya receives her first history exam back. She scores a 68/100, which is a 68% or D. She is so discouraged and now is considering withdrawing from the course.

    Reflections Questions:

    1. Do you think that Sonya should withdraw from the class? Why or why not?
    2. What would someone with a growth mindset do in this situation?
    3. How would acting with a growth mindset improve the situation?
