    Once in the classroom, the student-teacher should observe the classroom environment. How has the environment been set up in order to best support the needs of the children? Take mental notes to ask the mentor teacher about later. The first few days are often spent observing and getting to know the children. The student-teacher should introduce themselves to the children and start to slowly build relationships.

                  Student teachers will often start to take on more roles in the classroom. This will include set up of activities  and snacks, clean up, reading stories, outdoor supervision, and participating in or running small or large groups. Student teachers should expect to design and implement developmentally appropriate, high-quality activities. This is an opportunity to practice and receive feedback to improve teaching practices.
