    Learning Objectives
    • Ground yourself within your research project, considering your emotions, positionality, and motivation
    • Visualize a road map of your tasks & deadlines, obstacles, and support system
    • Create a binder or folder to keep yourself organized throughout the research process
    • Define literature reviews and explain their importance to the research process

    Stepping Stones: The Journey

    The focus of this unit is checking in with yourself to fully prepare yourself for this journey. When starting a work out, we might prepare ourselves by starting with some light stretches and activation. The activation shifts our minds away from our daily lives and into the workout. It also primes our bodies, so we’re fully prepared for the more intense workout that’s coming. If we were to jump into a workout without a warmup, we’d be more prone to injury and might not get as much out of the workout. Just as the warmup gets you ready to workout, checking in now helps you take your first step on the path.

    If you don’t take the time to check in prior to the research journey, the process might become entangled mid-project and take up more time and energy to fix later.

    The length of time you need on this unit will depend on a few factors:

    • How you create the tangible workbook alongside this e-book
      • Consider whether you will want to purchase a 3-ring binder
      • Consider whether you will need to learn a new application or if you'll use something familiar to you
    • How creative you want to be with your answers
    • How much time you have for the literature review (which often depends on whether this is for a course assignment, dissertation, or publication)
