    This chapter emphasizes the importance of making learning visible through tools like documentation boards and portfolios, which showcase not only the final products of children’s work but also the learning processes behind them. Various types of assessments—screening, diagnostic, formative, and summative—each have a role in informing instruction, ensuring accountability, and fostering school-family partnerships. It is critical for teachers to use for intentional practices when conducting assessments that respect the whole child, highlight the value of play-based learning, acknowledge the essential role parents play as their child's first teacher, and promote collaboration between educators and families.
