    Academic success during these years is shaped by more than just intelligence or knowledge. Children’s performance is influenced by a combination of factors, including the quality of the school environment, non-cognitive traits such as motivation and self-regulation, and external circumstances, such as global events or family disruptions.

    In the following sections, we will examine how these elements interact to support—or sometimes challenge—children’s learning. We will examine the role of teachers and classroom climate, consider how social-emotional factors contribute to student achievement, and assess how recent events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, have impacted learning outcomes during this formative period.
