Welcome to COM 1010: Foundations of Communication.  We have moved from a traditional textbook to an OER.  An OER is an Open Educational Resource that has been created by your faculty.  The difference between an OER and a textbook is that the content in this OER has been created for you by your instructors.  Unlike textbooks and other static sources of information, OERs can be updated quickly to incorporate student feedback. This material will be revised as needed, and as the times and society changes.  We plan to keep the most up to date information for you in this OER.  This OER contains content that will reside in the public domain.

Now that we have an OER for this course, this will allow us, your faculty to revise and remix the exact content we want to teach, in the manner we want to teach it.  This OER is totally free to you, and makes it possible for everyone to have the required course materials from the first day of class.
