Questions for Critical Thinking About Information Social Justice
- What factors influence which information gets published, how widely it is shared and at what cost, and whose voices are represented in it? How does this affect the ways we judge different types of information and/or different voices in general?
- How and why might powerful people, institutions, or governments distort or suppress information, and/or spread misinformation? How can we know when information has been suppressed or when certain voices have been silenced? What can we do about it?
- How might power structures influence factors that affect the findability of information, such as how search tools are organized or which sources appear at the top of a Google results list?
- How have power structures impacted your access to information? For example, how do power structures impact the information in your textbooks, and the affordability of those textbooks?
