Questions for Critical Thinking About Strategic Searching
- Why might it be useful to develop a search plan before searching for information?
- How can you determine what you’re looking for and where to search for it?
- How might understanding the characteristics of different types of sources and search tools, and how information is organized in different places, help you to develop a more effective search strategy?
- How do you know when you have a good search results list and when you should revise your search? How can you determine whether the sources in your search results are relevant and credible without reading every one?
- Why and how might learning more about your topic prompt you to change your search strategies?
- How can you tell when you've found a gap in the available information on a topic and when you just need to adjust your search strategy to find the information?
