Questions for Critical Thinking About Scholarly Communication
- How can we gain greater understanding of a topic by examining the connections and ongoing "conversations" between different sources on that topic?
- How do the expectations for scholarly conversation differ depending on the type of communication (such as written or oral) and the field of study?
- How have you participated in conversations that build knowledge within the communities you belong to (such as communities related to sports, hobbies, or other interests)?
- How do our responsibilities shift when moving from be a consumer of information to becoming a critic and/or creator of it?
- What barriers exist to entering into the conversation of scholarship? How can we address those barriers?
- How does generative AI facilitate complicate or change the process of scholarly communication and knowledge building? In what ways does AI facilitate the development of knowledge? In what was does AI harm the development of knowledge?
