    The learning outcomes for this text are in line with the course learning outcomes for ECE 115: Infant Toddler Development at Triton College in River Grove, IL.

    • Describe the stages of development from prenatal development through age three and the variations found across the developmental domains.
    • Explain how the theories on infant and toddler development have shaped our understanding of children from birth to age three.
    • Discuss how biological factors interplay with environmental factors to shape the development of infants and toddlers.
    • Describe how the socio-cultural context, such as gender, family, race, ethnicity, language, ability, socio-economics, religion, and society influence the development of infants and toddlers.
    • Identify physical, cognitive, and social-emotional milestones and sequences of development of infants and toddlers.
    • Describe neonatal, infant and toddler assessment techniques and how they inform our practices with children birth to age three.

    Notes and Context about This Text

    This Open Educational Resource was written with an Infant Toddler Development Course in mind. This text was written with understanding of infant and toddler development in the contextualization of the early childhood program at Triton College in River Grove, IL. Due to the context and location of the program, this text will utilize policies and materials from Illinois, such as references to Illinois Gateways to Opportunity and policies of DCFS particular to Illinois.

    This text follows the guidelines of the National Assocation for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Illinois Early Learning Guidelines. This text is written for those who are teaching in infant and toddler classrooms, however may be useful for any who has children, who wants to learn more about infant and toddler care, or simply loves learning.
