    Learning Objectives

    By the end of Chapter 2, students will be able to:

    SLO 2.1: Identify characteristics of effective supervision of teachers, mentors, and coaches.

    SLO 2.2: Explain the purpose and significance of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct in guiding early childhood professionals’ decisions and behavior.

    SLO 2.3: Reflect on and discuss personal values, morals, and ethics, and evaluate how they influence decision-making in educational settings.

    SLO 2.4: Identify and describe ethical responsibilities of educators toward children, families, colleagues, and the broader community.

    SLO 2.5: Discuss the WAGER framework and intentional practices and how to build nurturing, respectful, and equitable classroom environments.

    Chapter 2 Short Overview

    Chapter 2 explores the foundational role of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in shaping ethical and professional practices in ECE. It emphasizes the importance of personal ethics, morals, and values in guiding educators' daily decisions, especially when navigating complex moral dilemmas. The chapter highlights the NAEYC Code of Ethics as a critical tool for helping educators act intentionally and ethically in relationships with children, families, colleagues, and communities.
