    DAY 2 Overview

The second day of the workshop will focus on discussions of and reflection on institutional data gleaned from the PULSE Rubrics to inform the foci of action plans. Institutions will interact with one another to share challenges/issues and will be introduced to the process and resources to support action planning.

    Session Goals

    Institutional teams will:

    • Determine foci of action plans based on PULSE Rubric data
    • Identify potential barriers and levers through discussions with PULSE fellows and other institutional teams
    • Understand the action planning process that they will employ in the next session to achieve departmental goals

    Activities

    • Institutional groups will discuss outcomes of individual Snapshot Rubrics and come to a consensus on where their department currently resides relative to implementation of Vision & Change Recommendations
    • Institutional teams will discuss their Snapshot Rubric results with teams from other institutions of the same type to share successes and challenges
    • Participants will take part in an interactive session on the PULSE Action-Planning process during which they will:
      • Review the action plan template and process
      • Discuss the steps of the process and available resources

    Pre-Workshop

Task: Each participant will complete the PULSE Snapshot Rubric prior to attending today's workshop session.  Please bring a hard copy of your Snapshot responses.

1:00-2:15 PM  Engaging with Snapshot Rubric

    • In breakout rooms, institutional teams will meet to discuss their responses to the Snapshot Rubric
    • Institutional teams will reach consensus on their Snapshot Rubric scores
    • Each institutional team will submit consensus Snapshot Rubric scores to the PULSE Rubric portal
    • Based on the Snapshot Rubric, institutional teams will begin to identify areas that they want to address to meet their departmental goals.
    • Guiding Questions:

Goal: Discuss how you are doing and come to a consensus in your group for each criterion. Enter this consensus into the Rubric Portal (link is posted in the chat)

    Things to consider:

    • What criteria did you score the highest (what are your strengths)?
    • What did you do to accomplish the high score(s)?
    • What criteria did you score the lowest (what are your weaknesses)?
    • What resources do you think you will need to address your weaknesses?
    • Where is there agreement on scores? A wide range of scores? Why?
    • What do you want to change?
    • How do these rubric results influence your ideas about that?

    2:15-2:30 PM    Short break

2:30-3:30 PM    Networking and Harvesting Best Practices

    • In breakout rooms, institutional teams will meet with other institutional teams from similar institution types
    • What are strengths, weaknesses and best practices? Do you identify any commonalities across institutions?

Goal: Network with other institutions to share ideas, strategies and struggles

    Things to consider:

    • For the criteria you consider your strengths, what do/did you do to accomplish that?
    • For the criteria you consider your weaknesses, what constraints do you face? What resources will help you address those weaknesses?
    • What insights, experiences, ideas and resources can you share with colleagues from other institutions?

    3:30-4:00 PM

    • Developing an Action Plan  (Josh Gray)

End of Day 2 Individual Reflection Prompts:

    Homework

Coordinate with your institutional team, and begin to design an "Action Plan" based on what your department wants to address.  What specific area does your department want to address?  What types of support need to be in place for your department to move forward?

    Link to Action Plan template.
