But it’s not just about “individual responsibility.” Systemic change—like shifting subsidies from fossil fuels to renewables—requires political will. Global citizenship means combining personal action with collective advocacy for broader reforms.
The planet is indeed in SOS mode. But alongside crisis, there is momentum for change. From youth movements to Indigenous leadership to technological breakthroughs, a greener future is still possible. The challenge is ensuring that sustainability is not just a slogan but a real transformation of how we live, work, and govern.
As writer Rebecca Solnit (2020) reminds us: “Hope is not a lottery ticket you can sit on the sofa and clutch… It is an ax you break down doors with.” The climate fight is daunting, but the future is unwritten—and we all hold pens.
