A persistent theme throughout this book has been the existence and reproduction of inequality. Despite significant advancements in technology and economic growth, disparities in wealth, access, and opportunity remain deeply entrenched (Piketty, 2014). These inequalities are not incidental; they are produced by systems that distribute resources unevenly and often reinforce existing hierarchies. Within the spaceship metaphor, inequality raises critical questions about how resources are allocated and who has access to the systems that sustain life. If some passengers have greater control over navigation, access to resources, or decision-making processes, the fairness of the entire system comes into question. Inequality is therefore not just a moral issue; it is a structural challenge that affects the stability and sustainability of the system as a whole. At the same time, the chapters highlighted movements for justice that seek to challenge and transform these inequalities. Concepts such as design justice, data justice, and decolonial approaches emphasize the importance of inclusivity and equity in shaping systems. These frameworks push us to consider not only how systems function but for whom they function. Justice, in this sense, is an ongoing process rather than a fixed outcome. It involves continuous efforts to identify and address inequities, to amplify marginalized voices, and to create systems that are more inclusive and fair. In a shared spaceship, justice is not optional; it is essential for collective survival.
