In the career research chapter, you learned how to discover facts about potential careers including educational requirements, skills and abilities needed, typical work tasks and salary estimates. As you researched potential careers, you may have seen details about “job outlook” or employment projections. The outlook for a career or employment projection means whether that occupation is changing in some way, perhaps growing or declining or even transitioning into new work tasks and descriptions. In this chapter, we will investigate several workplace trends that could affect outlook and employment projections including the changing labor market and recent developments affecting how people work.
