Professor Cynthia Kaufman |
Cynthia Kaufman is the Director of the Vasconcellos Institute for Democracy in Action De Anza College where she runs, and teaches in, a community organizer training program. She is the author of six books on social change: Building Sustainable Social Relations, Solidarity Economics: Consumerism, Sustainability, and Happiness, The Sea is Rising and So Are We, Challenging Power: Democracy and Accountability in a Fractured World, Getting Past Capitalism and Ideas for Action. She has been active in a wide variety of social justice movements, most recently working on the climate crisis. She received her PhD and MA in Philosophy from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and her BA in Development Studies from UC Berkeley. She began her love of community college as a young adult at Mira Costa College in Oceanside, California. |
Professor Angélica Esquivel Moreno |
Angélica Esquivel Moreno is a professor of Chicanx and Latinx Studies at De Anza College and a long time community organizer. She was a part of the Vasconcellos Institute for Democracy in Action as a student, staff and now faculty advancing access to meaningful civic engagement for students and the larger campus community. Angélica is also a long time Board Member of the Community Learning Partnership (CLP), which creates educational pathways for community organizers and leaders who will make an impact in the world. After graduating from De Anza College, she earned her BA in Sociology and Public Policy from UCLA and then her MA in Chicano and Chicana Studies from San Jose State University. She has been involved in community organizing efforts outside of the campus community in supporting immigrants, women, youth, workers and students. |
