It grew in part from the open educational work of Dino Bozonelos, Charlotte Lee, Austen Thelen, Lauren Blanchard, Steven Cauchon, Masahiro Omae, Elizabeth Walker, and Travis Ritt, whose Introduction to Global Studies was developed through the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges Open Educational Resources Initiative (ASCCC OERI).
I am grateful to these authors for doing the work first, making it openly available, and creating a resource that helped inspire the development of this book. Open educational resources are at their best when they allow educators to build on one another's work, rethink it for new students and new moments, and keep the conversation moving forward.
This book is a substantially different work, with a new nine-chapter structure, narrative architecture, analytical framework, pedagogical approach, contemporary scholarship, case studies, examples, learning activities, and extensive newly authored material.
Where identifiable text, examples, framing, or organizational patterns from the original OERI resource remain, they have been adapted, substantially rewritten, reorganized, expanded, condensed, or integrated into the new work. Shared academic concepts, terminology, theories, historical events, institutions, and curricular topics common to Global Studies are not considered adaptations merely because they appear in both books.
