STEP 1: Think of a specific memory from your childhood. Briefly describe the event or experience.

STEP 2: Analyze the experience using three developmental theories: psychodynamic, psychosocial, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, or evolutionary. Use appropriate vocabulary for each theory. Add supporting evidence from your text. Describe how each theory provides you with a new understanding of this experience.

STEP 3: Each explanation should be in a paragraph or two between 75-100 words. This will result in 300-400 words total.

    Sample Grading Rubric
Criteria Proficient Developing Not Evident Points
Childhood experience Provides an appropriate and detailed example of a childhood experience that can be analyzed using three developmental theories Provides an example of a childhood experience but it is not clearly explained Does not provide an appropriate description of a childhood experience __/5
First theory Demonstrates an understanding of a developmental theory and provides an appropriate and detailed analysis of the example experience Describes the developmental theory but it is not clearly explained or not clearly linked to the example experience Does not demonstrate understanding of the developmental theory or how it can be used to analyze the example experience __/5
Second theory Demonstrates an understanding of a developmental theory and provides an appropriate and detailed analysis of the example experience Describes the developmental theory but it is not clearly explained or not clearly linked to the example experience Does not demonstrate understanding of the developmental theory or how it can be used to analyze the example experience __/5
Third theory Demonstrates an understanding of a developmental theory and provides an appropriate and detailed analysis of the example experience Describes the developmental theory but it is not clearly explained or not clearly linked to the example experience Does not demonstrate understanding of the developmental theory or how it can be used to analyze the example experience __/5
    Total: __/20
