    For this homework assignment you will choose one of the following prompts. #1 can be done as a performance in class or turned in in written form. Both essays are worth 30 points. See rubric below for criteria.

    1) Personal Reflection/ Creative Prompt
    Reflect on a moment when your intersecting identities (e.g., race, gender, sexuality, ability, class) deeply shaped your experience or sense of self. Write or perform a short journal entry or spoken-word piece that explores. You can submit this as written and/or perform it for the class.

    Your task:

    1. Context & Impact: Describe the situation and how your identities intersected.
    2. Embracing the Erotic: Drawing on Audre Lorde’s idea of the erotic as a source of pleasure, creativity, and intuition, how might tapping into those energies have empowered you in that moment?
    3. Artistic Expression: Show this empowerment—whether through metaphor, imagery, a piece of fiction, poetry or verse—evoking how embracing pleasure or deep creativity transformed your understanding of yourself.

    2) Connecting to Modern Context Prompt
    Audre Lorde’s legacy resonates strongly in today’s queer, Black, and feminist movements. Identify a recent activist, artistic, or political example where multiple identities and sexuality intersect—mirroring Lorde’s themes of self-care, resistance, and expression.

    Here is an example to help spark thoughts:

    Consider LadyLand 2025, a queer and trans-rooted music festival in New York City that combined joy, fashion, performance, and political affirmation during a time of anti-LGBTQ backlash. Acts like Cardi B and FKA twigs headlined, but the festival was more than entertainment—it was a defiant act of community and resistance, featuring readings like “I Want a Dyke for President” and bold expressions of queer trans joy.

    Your Task

    1.Identify: Find a recent event or project (e.g., an art exhibition, rally, performance piece, campaign).

    2. Analyze: Explain how it weaves together multiple identities (race, gender, sexuality) and channels Lorde’s call for erotic power, self-care, or resistance.

    3. Reflect: Why does this example matter? How does it continue Lorde’s work in your world today

    Feel free to use images, clips, or personal anecdotes ---creativity is encouraged. You might explore local events, online initiatives, or creative works, but be sure to reference specific, recent examples (within the past 1–2 years) and explain their relevance.
