Describe the criminal justice system and types of crimes
Sanctions (formal, informal, positive, and negative) are applied to control deviance and crime. The death penalty is a formal negative sanction applied to those who commit murder in certain ways in specific states. In this section, you’ll examine the organization of the U.S. criminal justice system and read about crime and punishment in the United States.
