So how does someone go about creating a monopoly, anyway? In this section, you’ll learn about the characteristics that lead to an environment where one business or firm could become a monopolist. Some monopolies form out of a government requirement, some because they control an essential resource, some because they are given an patent or have a copyright, or others because they intimidate competitors.
