Many fascists were former communists. For example, Benito Mussolini, the leader of the Italian Fascist Party, had been a prominent member of the Italian Communist Party before World War I. Both fascism and communism rejected bourgeois parliamentary democracy. In addition, there are located on different ends of the political spectrum.
