    ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

“I absolutely loved my years at Moraine Valley, and I always look back on them fondly. I appreciated the diversity of the campus, and how much I learned from other students. I was really involved in Student Life which allowed me to meet a lot of people and foster a huge sense of community. There appeared to be interesting events every week. Being in student government, one of my favorite things was how much the administration listens to us. I remember being surprised at how easy it was to get a meeting with the president of the college! I graduated from Moraine Valley in 2017 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science from the Recreational Therapy Program and an Associate Degree in General Studies, but I still sometimes take classes there!

I transferred to Illinois State University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation, and a minor in Human Development and Family Sciences in 2018. After encouragement from a Moraine Valley professor (Donna McCauley), I went on to get a Master of Arts degree in Disability Studies from the City University of New York - School of Professional Studies. Since then, I've been working full time as a disability advocate at the Disability Resource Center, a Center for Independent Living. I honestly think my experience at Moraine Valley was a critical part in how I got to where I am today.”

--Riley Spreadbury – Class of 2017
    A.A.S. degree in Recreational Therapy
