Joel Whitaker is an adjunct professor of communications at Prince George’s Community College. He joined the PGCC faculty in October 2014, stepping in during the middle of a semester to replace another adjunct who quit with no notice to take a GS-13 job at the Pentagon. He teaches Fundamentals of Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Public Relations Techniques and Newswriting for Public Relations. He has spoken at the national convention of the National Communications Association.
Whitaker earned his bachelor's degree in business-journalism from Indana University’s Kelley School of Business, his master’s in journalism from the Indiana University Graduate School, and his J.D. degree from Temple University School of Law. He recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Communication Studies from Indiana University.
He has worked as a reporter, editor and editorial writer for the Tampa Bay Times, a copy editor and front-page news summary writer for The Wall Street Journal and business news editor for the Philadelphia Bulletin. A former elected public official, he has been a national trade association officer, a foundation trustee and the secretary of the National Press Club of Washington, D.C. He is a newsletter editor and publisher and is accredited by the U.S. House and Senate Periodical Press Galleries.
