    This course is likely the first course you are taking in Early Childhood Development at Chabot College. It is the first step on a path to a rewarding career! To understand what comes next, and what others kinds of classes you will need to take to pursue a career in early childhood education, here is a brief explanation of the Chabot Early Childhood Development Program.

    ECD 50 - Early Childhood Principles and Practices, the course you are currently enrolled in, is a survey course. It looks at the broad spectrum of the field. As you continue on your journey through our program, you will take courses that specifically address specific skills and responsibilities. We hope that when you have completed the core 24 units of Early Childhood Development, you will meet the competencies needed to begin your journey as an early childhood professional. Those courses are

    • ECD 50 Early Childhood Principles and Practices
    • ECD 54 Child Health, Safety and Nutrition
    • ECD 56 Child Growth and Development
    • ECD 62 Child, Family, and Community
    • ECD 63 Early Childhood Curriculum
    • ECD 69 Child Study: Observation and Assessment
    • ECD 79 Teaching in a Diverse Society
    • ECD 90 Practicum: Supervised Experience
