    We the People… Terms and Conditions Apply: Race, Power, and the American Promise examines how race and ethnicity have shaped political power, citizenship, belonging, and democracy in the United States. The nation’s founding ideals promise liberty, equality, representation, and justice. Yet access to those promises has never been distributed equally. Throughout American history, laws, political institutions, social systems, and cultural beliefs have influenced who was recognized as fully American, whose rights were protected, whose voices were heard, and whose experiences were pushed into the fine print.
