All interviews are opportunities to engage in ethical communication. The National Communication Association asserts that “ethical communication is fundamental to responsible thinking, decision making, and the development of relationships and communities within and across contexts, cultures, channels, and media”(2) This commission should be fulfilled by both the interviewer and interviewee in all interview settings. Open-mindedness, empathy, tolerance and effective listening are some of the skills that comprise ethical communication and are vital to interviewing success. Framing, responding and building rapport in interviews also require ethical considerations.
