We’ve now learnt a lot about the structures and cells of the nervous system and how these cells and systems coordinate perception and generation of behaviours. It’s fascinating to understand how these complex, interacting processes allow us to successfully navigate life, appropriately responding to the world around us. But it’s also important to consider what happens when our brains and nervous systems don’t work so well. The next section will consider how these processes can go wrong, what the implications of nervous system dysfunction are for our lived experience, and what we can do to prevent or minimise these changes.
