- Persuasion is “the process of creating, reinforcing, or changing people’s beliefs or actions.”
- 16.3: Approaching Audiences
- When choosing a topic for your persuasive speech, it is crucial to consider the composition of your audience. Because persuasive speeches are intended to influence or reinforce an audience’s thoughts or behaviors, speakers must consider what and how the audience thinks, feels, and does.

- In this section, we will discuss the three persuasive strategies: ethos, logos, and pathos.
- 16.5: Constructing a Persuasive Speech
- In this section, you will take the previous chapter lessons and expanding towards constructing a persuasive speech. We will be focusing on the central idea statements as a “proposition”. Persuasive speeches have one of four types of propositions, which determine your overall approach.
